The Host by Stephanie Meyer

The Host by Stephanie Meyer
This is a book by the author of the Twilight series.  The Host is about an alien race that has taken over human bodies by surgically implanting themselves into their brains.  In Melanie's case, her human brain is still functioning and so the alien inside her, while controlling her outward thoughts and movements, is tormented by the human voice in her head.  While the alien, Wanderer, wants to fulfill her role as a help to her people, she is torn by the information Melanie wants her to withhold.  She decides to side with Melanie and flees to protect Melanie's family, but when they find her, they see her as an alien and keep her as prisoner.  The premise was great, but I felt the book was too long and took me awhile to get through.  I did enjoy it enough to finish it, but wished it had been half as long.  The movie was ok, but I thought it was cheesy hearing both voices fighting with each other the entire time.  However, the book got great reviews on Barnes and Noble and I even read there is a sequel coming out soon.  Read it/watch it if you enjoyed the Twilight Series. book: 3/5; movie: 2/5
